We have been advised of two dates of scheduled fire alarm tests at New Street station by Network Rail. The message from Network Rail is:On Sunday 28th of July 2013 and Sunday 3rd August 2013, Network Rail will be carrying out essential works as part of the redevelopment of New Street station.Works will be undertaken:· Sunday 28/07/2013 from 00.30 – 05.30 – Project fire alarm test· Sunday 03/08/2013 from 00.30 – 05.30 – Project fire alarm testThese are part of the series of test processes required after completion of phase 1 of the New Street redevelopment to test our alarm system as we are required to do so for safety measures.The scheduled programme for this work is as follows:On both nights, the testing taking place will involve the full fire alarm and station messages sounding and will be activated 5 to 7 times for a 15 minute interval throughout the 5 hour period.Safety is our number one priority and for this reason work we try to carry out this type of work while trains are not in operation. This means carrying out a lot of our improvements during the night and at weekends.The nature of our work means some disturbance is unavoidable, but please be assured that every effort is made to minimise any unnecessary noise.I hope this information is helpful and we apologise for any inconvenience these essential works may cause. We’ll yes we have been a bit quiet recently but we are back now. So whats been going on? in short quite a lot.
We resolved the legal case which had been running for several years
We appointed new managing agents for the building
We refurbished the main reception
We have upgraded the building security
We have been replacing old bulbs for new energy efficient ones
We cleaned all the carpets throughout the building
We have been in discussions with the new Paradise Forum Developers
We ran a Halloween and Christmas Party (well Dave and Babs did actually but it fits here well)
We have reviewed all the maintenance work that needs to happen to QCC
We have put a draft budget in place for the building which includes day to day running costs and new refurbishment and development
And all this without raising service charges for 3 year now!
So yes, while we have been a bit quiet on the website front, lots has been happening around the site thanks to Dave and Babs and our new Managing Agents. We hope you will notice more positive changes in the coming months as well.
Do you really need a car?
City Car Clubs have got new locations even closer to QCC now (by Mailbox, Council House and Colemore row)
Membership allows you to book a car (current rate £5.20 per hour + 22p per mile) and therefore provides a very cheap alternative to owning a car if you don’t need one on a daily basis. City Cars will be located in designated parking bays across the city centre and available to book for as little as 30 minutes, an hour, a day, or as long as you need.
As a member (annual membership £50) you can book the cars online or by phone any time of the day or night, and access them with your very own smart-enabled membership card. Book, jump in, drive away – it’s as simple as that!

With our new security system in place we have a variety of ways for people to access the car park depending on how much you want to pay. For info “fobs” are the small things you physically press against a door pad, whereas “zappers” have a range of around 5 meters.

The board of resident directors that manages Queens College Chambers have been working closely with the Building Manager and Managing Agents to review security around the building, in particular external access. We are pleased to be able to inform you of some new measures which will help protect our building and property.
|New front and rear door entry system||New entry system between car parks and the building|
|New garage door entry system||Installation of additional CCTV cameras to give full coverage of the car parks|
|Upgraded CCTV hardware allowing for 24 hours a day remote monitoring|
Sounds Great When Is This Happening? – The work has already begun and we expect completion next week.
Will My Door Fobs Still Work? – Yes your door fobs will work on the new system for a few weeks, however, we need you to see Dave or Babs next week to reset your all your key fobs, to prevent them becoming inactive when the old system is switched off.
Whats a Fob? – The little black gizmo that lets you in and out of the building.
Will My Car Park Zapper Still Work? – If you have a parking space you will need to exchange your current car park zapper for a new one from Dave next week. He has a list of all those residents permitted to park in the garage, old zappers will be switched off once the system is installed.
Whats A Car Park Zapper? – The little device with button on that lets you in and out of the car park.
How Do I Get From The Car Park Back Into The Building? – You will need to use your door entry fob (the same one you enter and exit the building with). Dont forget to take it if you go down to the car park or bins. We will put signs up to remind residents that under this new system walking into the car parks will be like walking outside the building.
With All These Security Measures What Happens In An Emergency? – Everything thats being installed is fully Health and Safety compliant. In the event of an emergency i.e. a fire, all doors will release automatically.
I Think I May Need Extra Door Or Car Park Fobs and Zappers? – Have a chat with Dave, you can purchase additional ones if you need them.
